The starry night


"The Starry Night" (1889) by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh

The Dutch Impressionist painter, Vincent van Gogh, created "The Starry Night" from his room's window in an asylum in 1889. This painting depicted the night sky over the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, even though he painted it during the day, relying solely on his memory of that particular night.

Considered one of van Gogh's most significant works, "The Starry Night" represents the culmination of several attempts to capture the illuminated night sky. This is evident in his two earlier paintings: "Starry Night Over the Rhone" and "Café Terrace at Night."

Currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, van Gogh's "The Starry Night" is among his most famous paintings and marks a pivotal moment in his artistic career due to his increased use of freedom and imagination in his artwork.
